We are pleased to announce the third annual Robert Stewart Essay Competition, which is open to undergraduate students in journalism, public relations and communications studies at accredited Canadian universities and colleges.

The essay topic for 2008 is <Tolerance>.

The competition offers a first prize of $2,000.00, a second of $1,500.00, and a third of $1,000.00.  It closes on January 31st, 2008.  Submissions must reach the Montreal Press Club by e-mail at montrealpressclub@gmail.com  or by Canada Post before midnight on that date.  Our mailing address is:  Montreal Press Club

Essays may be written in English or French.  The required length is 1,000 to 1,200 words.  Contest rules and the entry form may be found on the Montreal Press Club website at www.mpc-cjm.org.

The competition is intended to encourage the art of essay-writing and it honours the memory of Robert Stewart, author,  professional essayist and journalist of distinction, who died in December 2003.  A much-loved member of the Montreal Press Club, he wrote for a number of Canadian newspapers and magazines and was for many years author and editor of the Royal Bank Letter, which featured essays on a wide variety of topics.
