Rules and Regulations:
Essays should be 1,000 - 1,200 words in English or French.
This year's subject is "Tolerance".
Competition opens Nov. 1, 2007 and closes Jan. 31, 2008. Winners will be announced on this website and in the student press on March 12, 2008.
Contestants must be full-time undergraduates in journalism, public relations or communications studies at an accredited Canadian university or community college. Submissions must be original, unpublished work demonstrating superior quality of expression and craftsmanship.
Essays must be submitted with a completed entry form which is available for download elsewhere on this website. Essays must be double spaced, on white letter size paper, one side pages numbered. Entries may be e-mailed to admin@mpc-cjm.org or sent via surface mail to: Montreal Press Club, BPO Ogilvy, CP 22031, Montreal, QC H3G 2V9
To qualify, entries must be received no later than Jan. 31, 2008.
Judging:
Final judging will be by a bilingual panel of three senior editors, and writers.
Entries will be judged anonymously using a point system with equal weight given to:
1) overall calibre of the discussion;
2) coherence and focus of the presentation;
3) organization and logical flow of ideas;
4) style - with emphasis on clarity of expression and mechanics of good writing.
Only one entry per student per year will be permitted.
Helpful hint: this competition is not like an academic assignment, We want your original thoughts and ideas drawn largely from your life experience. References are fine where appropriate, but they should be used sparingly.
